"If there is any year for Smalltalk to regain a commercial visibility, this will be it. I mean, look at all the things coming together:
- the OLPC XO is putting Smalltalk into the hands of thousands of young kids
- Cincom and Gemstone are stepping up to support Seaside in a big way
- Gemstone is offering the single-instance free commercial license and GLASS quickstart appliance
- Squeak's license is finally getting cleaned up
- Seaside is reaching a nice level of maturity
- Seaside running on GNU Smalltalk for those that want a command-line environment
- Croquet is maturing, even being adopted as a commercial "virtual meeting" space
- Ruby on Rails has reestablished dynamic languages as useful for the web"

¿El año de Smalltalk?
Este es un "meta-post", un post que habla de otro post: leí este artículo publicado por Randal Schwartz en el que afirma que "este tiene que ser el año de Smalltalk" y menciona algunos puntos que creo que son interesantes:

Si, la verdad es que hay muchos proyectos en danza, pero sigo pensando, que Squeak, sigue necesitando, por un lado, ya no cambiar de nombre, pero sí de logo, y, alejarse de ese look "cartoon".
Da igual las herramientas que tenga, y que nosotros sepamos que es "lo mejor de lo mejor", si no se cambian esos detalles para atraer más desarrolladores.
Aunque, lo que sí es verdad, es que, para los pocos que somos en la comunidad de Squeak, es una de las comunidades más activas (y con más polémica) que he visto :D

Yes, Squeak may have an unusual look, but don't let that distract you from some very serious power within.
Very large projects are being coded in Squeak. For example, http://dabbledb.com is all Squeak inside.
Giuseppe: Yo no estoy seguro de que el nombre tenga mucho que ver con la visibilidad comercial de Squeak, y espero que ahora que hay bastantes cosas hechas con squeak, y que andan bien, se pueda ganar un poco de espacio para ganarse la vida con esto... de hecho, nosotros estamos apostando a eso :)
Randal: I agree with you, Squeak es already very powerful for using it in real-life projects. In fact, we are betting to that, although here in the third world is always harder than other places :)
